Alert! Youtube is blocking videos if you have Adblocker

As a show of force, youtube devised a new strategy to crack down on the adblockers blocking the ads on Youtube videos. Youtube will identify if you are using Adblockers to block the ads on videos and will give a prompt to disable the Adblocker.

If a user is having an Adblocker then the user is allowed to watch three videos without any issues and after that, the user will receive a prompt to disable the Adblocker or convert to a premium account. The monthly $US11.99 ad-free subscription service to watch ad-free videos.

This Youtube prompt notifying about the Adblocker was spotted and highlighted on Reddit by a user on 28-06-2023. Soon after this post, it became the talk of the town that Youtube is blocking videos if you have Adblocker.

As per a representative from Youtube confirmed to Gizmodo that Youtube is conducting a “small experiment globally that urges viewers with ad blockers enabled to allow ads on YouTube or try YouTube Premium.”

Youtube, a social media or video platform is mostly considered by users and content creators all over the world. It is free to access with certain feature limitations that are allowed to premium users only. Most of the Youtube revenue depends on these advertisements and it is their major source of revenue. So the practice of using adblockers is hurting the revenue of the platform.

To deal with this issue they launched this experiment to notify the users to enable the adblocker or to try Youtube Premium. Youtube Premium is a paid version with a feature to disable ads on videos. And the company also added that the playback might be temporarily disabled in “extreme cases.”

“In extreme cases, where viewers continue their use of ad blockers, playback will be temporarily disabled. We take disabling playback very seriously, and will only disable playback if viewers ignore repeated requests to allow ads on YouTube,”

One of Google’s best product is Youtube and anything hurting the revenue and their business cost alot. This loss is inevitable and Youtube is planning to take these measures to maintain the business growth and revenue chain.
